Frequently Asked Questions
-
Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health care that combines traditional medical treatments, like medication and psychotherapy, with other healing practices to treat the whole person. This approach may include nutritional advice, exercise, mindfulness techniques, and even natural supplements. The goal is to address not just the symptoms but also the underlying causes of mental health issues, considering the individual’s physical, emotional, and environmental influences. By looking at the bigger picture of a person's health, integrative psychiatry aims to provide more personalized and effective care.
-
A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a registered nurse who has completed advanced education (usually a master's or doctoral degree) and training in the field of mental health care. PMHNPs and Psychiatrists are both trained to assess, diagnose and treat mental health conditions with medications and psychotherapy. We often perform the same role in mental health care.
A nurse practitioner’s training emphasizes a holistic approach, which considers the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual facets of a person’s well-being. Whether you see a Nurse Practitioner or a Psychiatrist is a personal decision, but you can rest assured that if you do see a nurse practitioner, you are in well-trained, capable and compassionate hands.

I see children ages 12 and older, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. I commonly help people with ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar and other mood disorders, OCD, insomnia, trauma, and PTSD, but my approach transcends diagnostic labels. Understanding that individuals may not always fit neatly into those specific diagnoses, I approach each patient case with a fresh perspective. Together, we conduct a comprehensive assessment to truly understand your unique situation.

Frequency of visits will depend on the nature and severity of your symptoms. It is most common for us to meet biweekly or monthly for the first 3-6 months of treatment and then every 3 months thereafter. I have the flexibility to meet more frequently in the beginning of treatment if that is indicated and desired.
